Viagra Generic

lawn greeningViagra is used to treat men who have erectile dysfunction (also called sexual impotence). Viagra belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. These medicines prevent an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type-5 from working too quickly. The penis is one of the areas where this enzyme works.

Viagra pill was originally developed and studied as an anti-hypertensive drug to treat high blood pressure as well as a type of cardiovascular (affecting the heart and blood vessels) disease called angina pectoris.

  • The metabolism of Viagra is facilitated primarily by the CYP3A4 hepatic microsomal isoenzymes and to a minor extent, via the CYP2C9 hepatic isoenzymes. The predominant circulating metabolite results from the N-demethylation of viagra. This particular resultant metabolite possesses a phosphodiesterase selectivity that is similar to the parent viagra molecule and a corresponding in vitro potency for PDE5 that is approximately 50% that of the parent drug. Moreover, plasma concentrations of the metabolite are about 40% of those recorded for viagra, a percentage that accounts for about 20% of viagra’s pharmacologic effects

  • In single-dose volunteer studies of doses up to 800 mg, adverse reactions were similar to those seen at lower doses, but the incidence rates and severities were increased. Doses of 200 mg did not result in increased efficacy but the incidence of adverse reaction (headache, flushing, dizziness, dyspepsia, nasal congestion, altered vision) was increased.

  • Erectile dysfunction is a condition where the penis does not harden and expand when a man is sexually excited, or when he cannot keep an erection. When a man is sexually stimulated, his body's normal response is to increase blood flow to his penis to produce an erection. By controlling the enzyme, viagra helps to maintain an erection after the penis is stroked. Without physical action to the penis, such as that occurring during sexual intercourse, viagra will not work to cause an erection.

Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of viagra in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more likely to have age-related liver, kidney, or heart problems, which may require caution and an adjustment in the dose for patients receiving viagra."
